In a tough economic climate where colleges and universities are fighting to attract students, schools are using solar power to distinguish themselves. Campuses are catering to green-savvy prospective students by getting more of their electricity from solar energy.  For schools around the world, installing solar panels is a great way to generate public relations and save money on electricity bills in the future. But, with governments cutting funding for many public schools and green energy initiatives drying up, it is unclear if this trend can continue.

Not surprisingly, many of the top schools for solar generation are located in California, but tied for number one in solar installation in the US are Colorado State University and Princeton University.  In promoting solar on their campuses, Princeton emphasizes the tremendous learning opportunity for students while Colorado State emphasizes connections to the local economy and jobs.
